AMMAN — The Ministry of Energy and
Mineral Resources signed two agreements Sunday, setting the stage for copper
exploration in the southern Dana region, and gold digging in the Abu Khashiba
region, also in the south, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Under the first memorandum of understanding, the Jordan Integrated Mining
and Exploration Company will conduct a 16-month copper exploration in a 78sq.km
area outside of the Dana Nature Reserve, Minister of Energy Saleh Al-Kharabsheh
said.
The second memo with the Turkish “Solvest Trade and Industry Limited
Company allows for 14 months of digging for gold in the Abu Khashiba Valley in
area of 155sq.km.
Kharabsheh
said it was the second collaboration with the Turkish company, following a
memorandum of understanding concluded last April to explore for copper in the
same region.
