Jordanians paid 24.2% of their income in taxes in 2020

AMMAN — Taxes amounted to 24.2 percent of e person’s income in 2020, studies conducted by the Income and Sales Tax Department showed.

Responding to questions during Monday’s Senate session, Finance Minister Mohammad Al-Ississ said that those taxes are mainly levied on goods purchases and non-basic services, and also include payments to the Social Security Corporation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.اضافة اعلان

According to Ississ, tax revenues during 2020 amounted to JD3.533 billion, of which JD1.138 billion is income tax returns.

The minister added that 1,372 companies and institutions were inspected last year, resulting in the collection of JD408 million of tax revenues, compared to JD133 million collected last year through 2,895 inspections.

Al-Ississ also noted that 90 percent of imports value is not included in customs fees, stressing the need for halting exemptions without resorting to raising taxes.
