To accelerate the innovation and
adoption of AI technology, OPPO and other premier members will make
contributions by promoting strong open source AI and data communities, the
statement added.
Established by the
Linux Foundation in March 2018, the LF AI & Data Foundation consists of 49
members across several industries. The mission of the foundation is to build
and support an open AI and data community, and drive open source innovation by
enabling collaboration and the creation of new opportunities for all the
members of the community, the company said.
OPPO aims to create
an open ecosystem where developers and partners enable and enrich each other in
the era of the internet of experience. By doing so attracts like-minded
partners such as LF AI & Data Foundation. For years, OPPO has been continuously investing
in artificial intelligence and data technology, the statement said.
OPPO’s AI and data engineering system aims to deliver
better services to users and developers across the globe through exploration
and development in these core technologies such as conversational AI, machine
learning, personalized recommendation algorithms, cloud and data services, and security
and privacy.
By joining the LF AI
& Data Foundation, OPPO’s technologists Liam Zheng and Jia Jimin will
respectively serve as the representative of the governing board and the
representative of the technical advisory council, working closely with other LF
AI & Data's members to find out the best practices for using open source
tools in production.
“We are pleased to
welcome OPPO as a premier member on our governing board. They will have a
voting seat on all of our foundation level committees,” said Ibrahim Haddad, executive
director at LF AI & Data Foundation. “We support open source development
and the creation of a sustainable ecosystem that makes integration with open source
AI and data technologies both easier and more reliable. OPPO realizes the
importance of this effort and are working hard to foster a healthy ecosystem.”
In June 2020, OPPO became the first platinum member of the
OpenChain — an umbrella project of the Linux Foundation — to build a global open
source ecosystem by developing the open source ISO standards as the first mainland
China company. During OPPO ODC 2020 in October, ColorOS unlocked seven
system-level capability exposure engines for developers and partners by opening
source in hopes of creating an open and collaborative ecosystem, thus further
improving user experience.
In March 2021, OPPO Breeno became the first smartphone voice
assistant in mainland China that covers over 100 million monthly active users.
This June, OPPO Breeno team together with industry-leading universities and
research institutes released the current most comprehensive Chinese
conversational AI dataset, building a solid data foundation to drive research
in the field of conversational AI.
Aiming to become an
ecosystem company, OPPO is striving to explore an open and integrated ecosystem
while benefiting each individual and helping everyone make the most out of
their lives, bringing the brand-new intelligent experience. In the future, OPPO
will continue to establish a deeper engagement with the global open source
community for the sustainable development and mass adoption of cutting-edge
technologies, the statement concluded.
