The ministry said in a press release on Tuesday that the decrease,
excluding debt owed to the Social Security Investment Fund at the end of 2021,
was due to securing treasury bonds worth JD311 million against JD175 million of
new issuances, which led to a JD136 million decrease in domestic debt.
The payment of National Electricity Power
Company dues and a decrease in bank facilities for the company and the
Water Authority also led the debt to drop.
Furthermore,
external debt went down by JD68 million due to the government paying some dues
as well as a decline in the exchange rates against the US dollar.
