AMMAN — Chairman of Amman Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq in a statement on Sunday said that the chamber will submit “comments and remarks” on the amended draft of the 2021 General Sales Tax Law.اضافة اعلان

The remarks were made by chamber members, members of its general assembly, and the presidents of some syndicates, according to Haj Tawfiq.

He also announced that experts in sales and income tax law will be invited for a dialogue on the draft law, following which the chamber will submit its suggestions to the Ministry of Finance and the Sales and Income Tax Department for consideration.

Income and Sales Tax Department consultant, Moussa Al-Tarawneh, told Al-Ghad and Jordan News the day before that the amended draft of the Income and Sales Tax Law comes in response to the demands of merchants and industrialists, as it is based on giving back refunds from total collected tax, rather than from the funds allocated in the following year’s budget, which is the practice now.

Under the new amendments, according to Tarawneh, refunding timeframes would be cut to a third, as there would be no need for waiting for allocations from next year’s budget, which enhances businesses’ liquidity and revitalizes economic activity.

The proposed amendments do not entail imposing or increasing any taxes, according to the consultant, rather it resolves “gaps and distortions” that lead to tax evasion, by ensuring that providers of both goods and services will be treated equally when it comes to taxation.

The Jordan News Agency, Petra, said that the amendments, referred to the Prime Ministry by the Finance Ministry on Saturday, seek alignment with international standards regarding subjecting both goods and services to the sales tax.
