AMMAN — Tax revenues in the first quarter of 2021
amounted to JD1.252 billion, up by JD159 million from the JD1.093 billion
collected during the same period of 2020, Director General of the Income and
Sales Tax Department Husam Abu Ali announced on Wednesday.

The returns exceeded 25 percent of the value estimated in
this year’s general budget law, according to Abu Ali.
He said that sales tax revenues increased during the first
quarter to reach JD969 million, compared to JD810 million in the first quarter
of 2020, constituting a 20-percent rise, while income tax revenues remained at
the same level of 2020, standing at JD283 million.
The collected sum from the sales tax amounts to 25.3 percent
of the total estimated sales tax revenues for the entire year, as projected in
the 2021 General Budget Law, while collections of income tax comprise 25.5
percent of the total value set in the law for year-round income tax revenues.
In March alone, tax returns increased by 47 percent,
according to the director general, with a total of JD385 million, compared to
262 during the same period last year.
