Tourism and most economic activity came to a virtual
standstill during the pandemic as a result of lockdowns and closures of various
sectors of the economy.
Khasawneh said that tourism was the sector most
affected by the pandemic, but indications now point that it “has begun to
recover”.
His remarks came in a meeting with Bandar Al-Fahid,
president of the Arab Tourism Organization (ATO), who is visiting Jordan to
participate in the seventh Medical Tourism World Summit.
In the meeting, which was also attended by Minister
of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez, the premier stressed that Jordan’s
tourism, archaeological and medical potentials, qualify it to attract medical
tourists and Arab sightseers.
Fayez stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation
between Jordan and the ATO to create tourism programs that contribute to
attracting more Arab tourists. He pointed out that Jordan is counting on the
ATO’s selection of Madaba as the capital of Arab tourism for 2022.
