Qadiri said that
small and medium sized factories have been adversely affected by the
repercussion of the COVID-19 pandemic due to low purchase activity, adding that
these factories need solid support to increase their market share locally and
externally. “Operational cost must be reduced to enable those factories to hire
local labor,” he said.
Qadri said that
exports have dropped by 15 percent in 2020, while in 2019 the total exports
amounted to $2billion.
Qadri called for
solving the liquidity scarcity issue that was brought by the pandemic, and to
provide cash flow through
Central Bank programs. He said this cash can be transformed into
current expenditure on wages and production inputs rather than use this cash on
capital funds with zero interest, in addition to reviewing and facilitating
funding.
According to national
chambers of industry data of 2019, leather and weaved garments accounted for
27.5 percent of total exports, with a value of JD1656.0 million, coming first
in the overall export volume.
