AMMAN —
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez said that more than 2.5 million tourists visited the
Kingdom during the first seven months of this year, a 220.4 percent jump compared with the same
period in 2021, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
Fayez said Tuesday that “income from tourism also
soared during the first seven months of this year by 204.5 percent to JD2.034
billion, compared with the corresponding period of 2021”.
He also pointed out that the number of sightseers
visiting the Kingdom and the income from tourism exceeded the figures projected
in the National Tourism Strategy for the years 2021–2025.
In the strategy, the target number of visitors in
2022 was envisaged 1.88 million, and the income from tourism was estimated at
JD1.593 billion.
Fayez stressed that “developing tourism is one of
the most important factors in the
National Tourism Strategy for 2021–2025”, adding that continuing to develop
tourist areas will contribute to strengthening Jordan’s position on the global
tourism map, and attract more tourists.
