The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that donors provided approximately $43 million in January 2025.

The UNHCR explained that many Syrian refugees in Jordan have expressed a desire to return to their homeland. Some have shown readiness to return immediately, while others need more time to think and make a decision after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.اضافة اعلان

The UNHCR confirmed its readiness to support refugees who choose voluntary return by providing counseling on voluntary repatriation. It also highlighted that it had recently expanded its transportation assistance to facilitate the return of refugees to Syria.

The agency indicated that around 20,000 Syrian refugees registered with them returned to Syria in January 2025, bringing the total number of returnees between the fall of Assad's regime in December 2024 and the end of January to about 25,500 people. Of these, 44% were women and girls, and 56% were men and boys.

Additionally, the UNHCR distributed $3.2 million in cash assistance for basic needs in January, benefiting 20,000 families in local communities, and reaffirmed its ongoing support for refugees in Jordan.

The UNHCR had earlier announced its goal to raise $22 million to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees in Jordan to their country in 2025 and provide necessary support upon their arrival in Syria. This is part of a broader plan to raise $370.9 million for the same goal across five countries.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, 42,675 Syrians have left Jordan through the Jaber border crossing since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The ministry emphasized that all Syrians who left the kingdom "left voluntarily."

Jordan hosts approximately 1.3 million Syrian refugees, including 660,000 registered with the UNHCR, in addition to nearly 61,000 Iraqi refugees.
