The ACI released a report
on Tuesday showing that most industrial sectors saw an increase in exports in
the January–October period, ranging between 3 percent in the construction
sector and 105 percent in the higher growth mining industries.
This rise points to the
fact that ACI exports will reach an unprecedented figure by the end of the
year, and to the ability of the Jordanian industry to overcome difficulties and
face competition in the export markets.
Jordanian industrial
products — some 1,400 commodities — are exported to more than 142 countries;
India, the US, Saudi Arabia and Iraq accounted for more than half of the
chamber’s exports during the first 10 months of the current year, at a value of
JD3.296 billion.
According to statistics,
the chamber’s exports to India rose during the first 10 months of 2022 to
JD1.299 billion, compared with JD727 million in the same period last year, a 79
percent hike.
The chamber’s exports to
the US dropped by 1 percent in the January–October period, to reach JD824
million, compared with JD829 million for the same period in 2021.
The chamber’s data also
shows that its exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 32 percent during the said
period of this year, reaching JD627 million, compared with JD473 million in the
corresponding period of 2021.
The chamber’s exports to
Iraq also rose during the specified period to about JD546 million, compared
with JD443 million for the same period last year, a 23 percent increase.
Exports to Syria recorded
a 44 percent increase during the specified period, worth JD107 million,
compared with JD74 million last year.
Exports to Palestine increased
by 22 percent, reaching JD145 million during the reporting period, compared
with JD119 million for the same period in 2021.
The mining industries
contributed JD2.225 billion to the exports, followed by the chemical and
cosmetic industries with JD1.279 million, and the engineering, electrical, and
information technology industries with JD747 million.
The value of export from
the catering, food, agricultural, and livestock industries reached JD587
million, followed by the therapeutic industries, and medical supplies sector
with JD493 million, the leather and textile industries with JD388 million, and
the packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies industries with JD237
million.
Exports of the plastic
and rubber industries totaled JD214 million, and of the construction industries
reached JD73 million, while exports of the wood and furniture industries hit
JD17 million.
The ACI, whose combined capital is
approximately JD5 billion, was established in 1962; it now has 8,600 members
employing 159,000 people.
