AMMAN — Exports of the
Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) jumped 61 percent to JD2.8 billion in the first five months of
2022, compared with JD1.7 billion in the same period of 2021, according to the
Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Most industrial sectors witnessed an upward trend
between January and May this year, except for the drug and medical supplies
industry, which decreased by 18 percent to JD188 million, compared with JD228
million recorded in the corresponding period last year.
Statistics issued by the ACI on Wednesday showed
that the chamber’s exports have been on an upward trajectory since the start of
2022, recording unprecedented rates.
About 1,400 various Jordanian products are exported
to more than 142 markets worldwide.
India, the US, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq accounted for
JD1.5 billion of the overall exports, more than half of the ACI’s exports
during the past five months.
According to ACI’s figures, Jordanian exports to
India during that period shot up by 155 percent to JD652 million, against JD255
million in 2021, placing the South Asian country at the top of foreign and Arab
importers from Jordan.
The US came second with JD391 million, compared with
last year’s JD323 million, up by 21 percent, followed by Saudi Arabia with
JD278 million, compared with JD238 million, also a 21 percent rise. Iraq imported
some JD229 million worth of Jordanian exports, compared with JD205 million,
signaling an increase of 12 percent.
Exports in the past five months were spread over
these sectors: mining industry with JD971 million, chemicals and cosmetics with
JD589 million, engineering, electricity, and information technology with JD376
million.
Exports from catering, food, agricultural, and
livestock industries amounted to JD282 million, medical supplies to JD188
million, and dermatology and knitting to JD174 million.
The chamber’s exports from other sectors were spread
into JD120 million in the packaging, paper, carton, and office supplies sector,
JD109 million in the plastic and rubber industries sector, JD40 million in the
construction sector, and JD9 million in the wood and furniture industries
sector.
