The Cabinet has made decisions and legislations aimed at strengthening the agriculture sector and supporting national exports. It approved an agreement to establish the Food Security and Nutrition Observatory for the Levant Region, funded by the FAO's Technical Cooperation Programme.
The goal of establishing the observatory is to enhance food security in the region by providing accurate data, comprehensive analysis, and effective early warning systems. This will support government efforts to achieve its agricultural development priorities, preserve natural resources, and promote rural development.
The project focuses on the priorities of the FAO's program, innovation for sustainable agricultural production, ensuring equitable access for small producers to resources, reducing food loss and waste, and expanding investment in the agricultural sector.
The Cabinet also approved the justifications for the Draft New Plant Varieties Registration System for 2025, to be sent to the Legislative and Opinion Bureau for further procedures.
This draft system aims to address several issues in line with the agreement signed with the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), and it will structure the system in a way that facilitates and simplifies interaction with service recipients.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the justifications for the Draft Amended System for Tax Declarations, Records, Documents, and Profit Percentages for 2025, also to be sent to the Legislative and Opinion Bureau for further procedures.
This system aims to prevent increasing the tax burden on national export services and to maintain the income tax on the maritime shipping sector at the reduced rate of 3%. The system aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision and is in line with strategic plans aimed at boosting growth, enhancing the competitiveness of national companies in the maritime shipping sector, and increasing their exports, thus contributing to an overall increase in national exports.
The project also aims to increase exports for national companies in the maritime shipping sector by encouraging them to expand their operations, which will lead to greater national exports, an increased share of local companies in global markets, higher profits for local businesses, and a greater tax yield from them.
