AMMAN — The southern port of
Aqaba is witnessing an active handling movement, with an occupancy rate of berths
reaching more than 80 percent, and ships waiting to enter and deliver their
cargoes of various commodities to the Jordanian market, in an indication of an increase
in imports, according to Al-Ghad News.

The inflow of ships was matched by
drawing a plan according to scientific bases to cope with the increase in
activity at the port, especially in this period, which is witnessing an
increase in imports.
Director General of Aqaba Company
for the Management and Operation of Ports Abdul Majeed Al-Qaralla said
that Aqaba port is witnessing intense activity.
He reiterated that 80 percent of its
berths are occupied, and that more than five ships are waiting in the regional
waters to enter during the next two days, noting that these ships carry on board
grains, cars, corn, iron, marble and livestock.
Qaralla said that in the next 10 days,
seven ships carrying more than 5,000 vehicles for supply to the local market are
expected to dock at the berths.
He also said that the passenger
terminal is witnessing an equally remarkable activity of cruises effected by
the Arab Bridge Maritime Company between Nuweiba and Aqaba, at a rate of 300
passengers per day, and stressed the readiness of the Aqaba Port to receive
more ships, following the maximum public safety procedures.
Aqaba ports play a major role in
contributing to the global trade movement and supply chains, besides heir
important role in stimulating trade and diversifying the economy of the Kingdom.
