AMMAN —
The
Aqaba Marine Reserve, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, was
listed in the national network of natural reserves, the reserve’s director
said, according to Ad-Dustour daily.

The director,
Khaled Abu Aeesha, said work is underway to register the Aqaba Marine Reserve
on the Green List network in collaboration with the International Union for the
Conservation of Nature.
The reserve,
established two years ago, is considered a turning-point in the principle of
coastal management, specifically in the implementation of principles that rely
on the ecological system, he added
His comments came
during a joint workshop by the
Aqaba Diving Association and the Egyptian
Chamber of Diving and Water Sports.
The workshop was
aimed at introducing the marine environment and the diving sport at the Red
Sea.
According to the
Head of the Aqaba Diving Association, Khamash Al-Yaseen, the association was
established in 2010, to improve diving tourism in the Gulf of Aqaba and enhance
the level of services provided for visitors.
Additionally, the
association spotlights environmentally-friendly practices, ensures divers’
safety, maintains marine life, and promotes tourism to the resort city.
Yaseen said the
association, with support from the
Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, has
taken part in global diving exhibitions to attract foreign divers, and invest
at the Gulf of Aqaba as a destination for the global diving sport.
