AMMAN —
The total area of buildings licensed in 2021 reached 8.747 million square
meters (sq.m.) against 5.721 million sq.m., signaling a major growth of 52.9
percent year-on-year, the
Department of Statistics announced on Sunday,
according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The department
added that the total number of building licenses issued in the Kingdom jumped
by 39.2 percent during the past year to 26,720 compared to 20,019 licenses in
2020.
The area of
residential buildings stood at 7.685 million sq.m. in 2021, soaring by 54.9
percent against 4.96 million sq.m. in 2020. Similarly, the total area of
buildings licensed for non-residential purposes rose by 39.6 percent to 1.062
million sq.m., up from 761,000sq.m. licensed in 2020, the data showed.
Buildings licensed
for residential purposes comprised 87.9 percent of the total area of licensed
buildings, leaving the remainder to non-residential area.
The central region
of the Kingdom accounted for 67.1 percent of the total area of licensed buildings,
while the northern and southern regions’ shares stood at 23.4 and 9.5 percent,
respectively.
