AMMAN — In its 2022 budget, the government increased the Ministry of Water and Irrigation’s allocation by 27 percent to reach JD18 million; up from its 2021 budget estimate of JD14 million, according to Al-Ghad News.

The ministry’s current expenditures for 2022 increased by 17 percent, to reach JD2.184 million, up from the JD1.864 million budget estimate in 2021.
Capital expenditures received the largest share of allocation, JD15.8 million, a 27.5 percent increase over the JD12.410 million in 2021, and salaries and bonuses will see an increase of 20 percent in 2022, with a budget estimated at JD1.373 million, up from the JD1.144 million in 2021.
On Sunday, the government published the draft budget for 2022, with an expected deficit of JD1.7 billion, compared to JD2.05 billion in 2021; estimated total expenditures in the draft budget law for 2022 amounts to JD10.6 billion, while it was estimated at JD9.8 billion for the current year.
The expected value of public revenues in the draft budget is JD8.9 billion, up from the budget estimate of JD8.1 billion in 2021.
The water sector in Jordan has to deal with problems induced by the climate change, like drought and poor rainfall, depletion of available water resources, and lack of funding, Al-Ghad reported.
