Consumer price index reaches record high, fuel and rent drive inflation

AMMAN — The general Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 3.36 percent at the end of May last year to reach 108.50, compared to 104.97 for the same period of the year before, according to a monthly report by the Department of Statistics published on Sunday.اضافة اعلان

According to the report, the most prominent commodity groups that contributed to this increase were rents by 5.17 percent, fuel and lighting by 18.40 percent, transportation by 3.14 percent, dairy products and eggs by 8.59 percent, and health by 6.50 percent, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

May 2023 CPI increase
According to the report, the general Consumer Price Index for May of the current year increased to 108.62 compared to 106.53 for the same month of the previous year, recording an increase of 1.96 percent.

The report added that the main contributors to this increase were the rental group by 5.17 percent, transportation by 2.45 percent, dairy products and eggs by 7.56 percent, health by 6.18 percent, and culture and entertainment by 9.27 percent.
