AMMAN — Representative of the clothing, footwear and
jewelry sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Asaad Al-Qawasmi, said that the
demand for buying clothes and footwear in the local market as "limited",
despite the approach of Eid Al-Adha, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

Qawasmi
said on Tuesday that "the demand for buying clothes and footwear in the local
market is below the aspirations of traders, who were hoping for a revived
commercial activity during the upcoming Feast of Sacrifice.
"The
demand and the purchasing power are below the seasonal average, and weaker than
it was during last year," he said.
He
explained that the activity was even way below the previous Eid al-Fitr, which
marked the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. He said the current idle
activity comes despite banks postponing loan repayment for their clients.
Qawasmi
pointed out that the limited demand in the clothing and footwear is potentially
the result of citizen’s weak purchasing power, coupled with the eid coinciding
with the Tawjihi exams.
