AMMAN — The European Bank for

million to the
National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) to finance the
construction of a high voltage, 400 KV, transmission station, according to
Al-Mamlaka TV.

The bank is scheduled to approve the loan in
November. The new station is located in the northeastern part of Jordan, which
helps improve the capacity of the electrical network to absorb existing and new
renewable energy projects.
It would also increase transmission flexibility,
enhance the voltage of the electricity network in northeastern cities and
outlying villages, and facilitate network connection operations with
neighboring countries.
The project will promote the use of renewable energy
sources, enhance energy security through diversification of energy supply and
energy market integration, and support NEPCO’s Electricity Training Center by
developing a “green skills” training program to improve access to market-relevant
skills and job opportunities for the youth.
The project also aims to enhance access to skills and
employment in Jordan by improving policy concerning apprenticeship
arrangements, and help all levels of NEPCO management implement best practices
regarding equal opportunities, fair employment, evaluation of performance, and
job promotion.
