According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Jaitan revealed
that the local food sector's annual gross output stands at over JD4.5 billion,
with an average added value of JD1.5 billion annually over the past five years.
This figure constitutes 20.3 percent of the total added
value of the entire industrial sector.
Impact of JD spentThe food industry's close association with multiple other
sectors means that each dinar spent within its realm has a direct and indirect
impact equivalent to JD2.5 on the national economy, he said.
This elevates its contribution to 15 percent of the GDP,
both directly and indirectly.
Exports total $855 million in 2022Jaitan revealed that the sector's export revenue totaled
approximately $855 million in 2022, reflecting a remarkable growth rate of 32
percent compared to the previous year.
The sector's exports made up more than 8 percent of the
total Jordanian industrial exports.
The lion's share of the sector's exports were directed
towards Arab markets, particularly the Gulf countries, with forays into new
markets including the US and the EU.
Employment opportunitiesThe sector is an important source of employment
opportunities, with approximately 50,000 workers employed within its realm,
according to Jaitan, who is also the vice-president of the Jordan Chamber of
Industry.
