Shawarbeh’s statement came during his participation
in the Transport Conference for the Middle East and North Africa 2022, which
was held in Dubai and organized by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai
and the International Federation for Public Transport.
Shawarbeh indicated that the Greater Amman
Municipality (GAM) is currently conducting technical and financial studies for
the second phase of the 52km BRT project.
He said that the GAM has formed a team to study the
efficiency and ability of the city to serve citizens, including the provision
of essential services that meet the needs of the population.
Shawarbeh said that “45 percent of the GAM’s
electricity bill is covered through a project to convert waste into power at
the Ghabawi landfill. The project
converts liquefied gas into electricity and lighting Amman’s roads has been
turned into an energy-saving LED system, which also contributes to reducing
carbon emissions.”
The mayor said that Amman Vision, founded by the GAM
to serve as the municipality’s investment arm, purchased and operated public
transport buses while applying high service standards.
