These camps are part of the
Riadati Program, a new three-year partnership between GFP and the Olympic
Refuge Foundation (ORF). Through this partnership, GFP will implement Sport for
Protection-based activities designed to enhance the mental health and
psychosocial well-being of youth affected by displacement across Jordan.
The 20 Summer Sport Camps
will run from 1 to 12 August, offering a safe and fun space for 2,000 students
of different nationalities to learn and interact, and promote trust, inclusion,
and belonging through basketball, volleyball, and other sport-based activities.
The Camps are led by 40 volunteer Physical
Education (PE) teachers who have successfully completed intensive training
sessions conducted by GFP prior to the start of Camps, building their knowledge
and skills in facilitating Sport for Protection activities. The Camps will be
delivered in the governorates of Ma'an, Karak, Mafraq, Zarqa, Tafilah, Irbid,
Balqa, Amman, and Madaba.
GFP President, Dr Mohanned
Arabiat, expressed that the organization is proud to implement the Riadati
Summer Sport Camps for the second consecutive year with the support of the ORF.
He pointed out that the 2022 Camps had a remarkably positive impact on the
teachers who acquired new skills for using Sport For Protection professionally,
as well as on students affected by displacement who found, through these Camps,
a way to overcome barriers of fear, expression, and inclusion.
He added, "We value our renewed
partnership with the ORF, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact
these 2023 Camps will have on a new group of students in cooperation with the
JSSF and MoE.”
For his part, Dr Musleh Al-Batoush, JSSF
Secretary-General and MoE Director of School Sport, said, "Sport camps are
part of the JSSF and MoE’s plan for school sport, and we have prepared all the
resources to ensure the success of this Program. We are delighted to
collaborate with GFP since establishing our partnership in 2016. Finally, I
express my gratitude to all involved in this Program."
