— In September 2020, the Ministry of Planning funded the construction of a Zain
call center to support women’s employment and empowerment in Maan Governorate,
in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and the Vocational Training
Corporation, the latter of which provided the plot of land for the project.

Al-Kateb, one of the call center’s twelve all-women employees, told Jordan News that “this project enabled
us, women in Maan, to work without having to worry about the long distances we
would have to travel to find a suitable job opportunity.”
Women in the area
struggle to find employment, she said, adding that “we are now trainees and
workers.”
As part of their training, the call center employees received an
English language course from the Ministry of Labor.
“Being only women in the
workplace makes the place different. We are all friends,” Kateb concluded.
The
Planning Ministry project to fund
Zain customer service call centers — not just
in Maan but in other governorates including Balqa, Jerash, and Ajloun — comes
as part of Royal directives to people’s improve the standard of living by
implementing income-generating projects.
This public-private partnership aims
to reduce unemployment and poverty among governorate youth.
Fahad
Aljasem, CEO of the company, said the project would provide 52 job
opportunities to young women across the country, and added that he hoped to
expand to all the governorates.
He concluded by voicing his appreciation for
the productive partnership between the government and Zain.
