Gov’t hopes to attract JD1.2 b worth of new investments in 2022

AMMAN — The draft general budget law for 2022 shows that the Ministry of Investment and the Investment Authority seeks to attract new investments, at a value of JD1.2 billion, during 2022, according to Al-Ghad News.اضافة اعلان

The value of investments targeted for 2022 will increase by 140 percent, or JD700 million, over the initial evaluation at the end of 2021, to reach JD500 million.

The Ministry of Investment allocated about JD1.7 million in 2022 for the purpose of promoting investment, exports, and exhibitions. This allocation comes within the export promotion program, which aims to promote and expand national exports and increase the authority's promotional system efficiency in attracting local and foreign investments by adopting advanced promotion mechanisms, including electronic.

In order to reduce the time required for registration and licensing, JD170,000 was allocated for the national investment strategy used by the investment program.

The Ministry of Investment budget for 2022 amounts to JD5.7 million, of which JD3.4 million, representing 60 percent of its total budget, is current expenditure.

The net foreign direct investment flowing into Jordan in the first half of 2021 decreased by 55 percent, on an annual basis, to about JD135 million, according to data from the Central Bank of Jordan.

The Central Bank data also shows that the decline in foreign investment during the first half of 2021 amounted to JD135 million, down from JD302 million in the first half of 2020.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh said that "we are currently working on preparing for the completion of a new investment law that is in line with international best practices in this field”.
