AMMAN — Income from tourism to Jordan grew by 49 percent in
March 2023 compared to the same period last year according to Central Bank
figures.

The income generated amounted to JD435.8 million ($613.6
million), as reported by Al-Mamlaka TV.
First quarter growthIn the first quarter of 2023, tourism income saw an 88.4
percent increase, to record JD1.18 billion ($1.6 billion), driven by the
increase in the number of tourists, which reached 1.4 million tourists, growing
by 90.7 percent, when compared to the previous year.
The data reveals that the increase in tourism revenue is
largely due to the rise in the number of overnight stays. The number of
overnight tourists reached 1.2 million with a growth rate of 80.9 percent,
while the number of single-day tourists reached 272,100 with a growth rate of
151.2 percent.
Spending abroad also saw an increaseAt the same time, the data indicates an increase in tourism
spending abroad for March 2023, growing by 26.2 percent, compared to the same
month last year, reaching JD99.2 million ($139.9 million).
As for the first quarter of 2023, tourism spending abroad
increased by 68.4 percent, at JD299.4 million ($422.3 million).
Expenditure by Jordanian residents accounted for 83.5
percent of the total tourism expenditure abroad.
