AMMAN — The consumer price index (CPI), a
measure of inflation, increased by 4.02 percent in the first three quarters of
this year compared to last year, reaching 106.33 points compared to 102.22
points for the same period in 2021, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

According to a monthly report issued by the
Department of Statistics on Wednesday, the largest contributors to the increase
were fuel and lighting products at 22.37 percent, transportation at 5.93
percent, rent at 1.91 percent, vegetables at 8.35 percent, and culture and
entertainment at 8.84 percent.
For the month of September alone, the report noted
an inflation increase of 5.39 percent, with the CPI at 108.41 points compared
to 102.86 for the same month in 2021.
Also in September, fuel was still the main contributor to
the monthly increase, at 33.3 percent, followed by culture and entertainment,
at 14.39 percent, health, at 7 percent, transportation, at 6.9percent, and
rent, at 4.48 percent.
