The two men agreed to establish an action plan for
the coming year to build strategic partnerships, according to a statement
issued by the JBA on Monday.
They also underscored the need to define priority
economic sectors and learn about mutual investment opportunities.
During the meeting, Tabbaa affirmed the “deep-rooted
and advanced” Jordanian-American ties, pointing to the two nations’ free trade
agreement, which plays a significant role in boosting economic relations.
Jordan’s private sector works constantly to leverage
the free trade agreement to expand cooperation and enter the American market,
Tabbaa said, adding that the agreement has helped the two nations realize
common interests, and has established the US as a key export partner for the
Kingdom.
Skillin underlined the need to bolster joint
cooperation and tap into investment opportunities in both countries. He noted
that economic growth is accelerating in the region, encouraging efforts to put
Jordan on the investment map.
Trade exchange between Jordan and the US reached
$3.7 billion through the end of 2021, with
Jordanian exports — mainly chemicals
and garments — accounting for $2.3 billion of that total. Imports to Jordan,
mainly consisting of machinery, mechanical devices, and metal products,
accounted for the remaining $1.4 billion.
