AMMAN — The
Jordan Industrial Estates Company’s Board of Directors on Saturday granted the tender for the implementation
of the first phase of Zarqa Industrial City to a local contracting company, at
a total cost of JD21 million, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

At a recent board
meeting, the company stressed that the government’s priorities in 2021–2023
include granting the tender to a local contracting company and starting the
implementation of the project, with the aim of achieving development in various
regions of the Kingdom, providing more job opportunities for Jordanian youth,
and making Jordanian industrial cities the ideal environment for industrial
investment.

Director-General of the Jordan Industrial Estates
Company Omar Joeid said that the first phase of the project includes the
development of 1,116 dunums, out of 4,700 dunums of the total area of
Zarqa city,
in several stages.
He said that excavation works and the allotment of
industrial plots will be carried out, in addition to the infrastructure
pertaining to water, electricity, communications, street lighting,
firefighting, and administrative buildings, which include service buildings and
water tanks. The implementation of the first phase is expected to extend to
approximately three years, according to Joeid.
He stressed the importance of establishing an
industrial city in the Zarqa area, some 30km to the east of the city of Zarqa,
on the way to Azraq, and 15km from the free zone area in Zarqa.
Once ready, the industrial city of Zarqa is expected
to attract investments in several fields, such as food, chemical, packaging,
and engineering, Joeid said.
