Jordan-Sudan trade volume reaches JD108.9 million last year

AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) reported that the trade volume between Jordan and Sudan reached JD108.9 million in 2022, according to Al-Mamlaka TV. اضافة اعلان

The figure includes both exports and imports, with Jordan's exports to Sudan amounting to JD61.8 million, while its imports from Sudan were JD47.1 million. The data also showed that Jordan's trade balance with Sudan was in its favor by JD14.7 million.

Sesame seedsAccording to the ACC, the highest imported commodity from Sudan to Jordan last year was sesame seeds, valued at JD32.4 million. In 2021, the most significant imports from Sudan to Jordan were sesame and live animals and their products.

Meanwhile, Jordan's most important exports to Sudan for the same period were chemical industries, iron, and food industry products.

Sudanese investmentsSudan's investments in the Amman financial market rank 51st out of the total nationalities investing in the market, according to the Securities Depository Center. As of March 31, 2023, there were 32 Sudanese shareholders with a total value of JD200,000.

Crisis impactThe Ministry of Agriculture reported that Jordan imported 10,000 live cattle from Sudan out of 100,000 cattle imported from abroad, with a rate of up to 10 percent.

The ministry also stated that the crisis in Sudan did not affect the local meat market.

Regarding education, there are approximately 500 Jordanian male and female students studying in Sudanese universities, including 350 in postgraduate studies and 150 in bachelor's degree programs.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is coordinating with the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs to monitor the situation of Jordanian students studying in Sudanese universities.

The ministry advised its student citizens residing in Sudan to avoid places of events if possible to ensure their safety.
