The US was the top
destination of jewelry exports overseen by the
Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI),
worth about JD158 million, followed by the UAE, worth JD7 million and Italy,
with JD4 million.
ACI Chairman Fathi Jaghbir said the increase in
Amman’s jewelry exports is a “positive” sign, which shows that the Jordanian
industry has started to diversify its exports, taking advantage of its “high
quality and competitiveness”.
In a statement on Saturday, Jaghbir stressed the
need to optimize the advantage the industrial sector derives from Jordan’s
trade agreements with many global economic blocs, which could contribute to
diversifying the base of exported goods.
To date, the number of ACI-registered businesses
operating in the jewelry industry stands at 126; they provide 1,601 jobs,
according to the chamber’s data.
In addition, the ACI’s total exports rose during the first
quarter of 2022 by 57 percent, to reach JD2.216 billion, compared to JD1.416
billion in the same period last year, data shows.
