AMMAN — Jordan ranked 10 in the Arab world in gold
reserves, as Jordan’s possession of the precious metal reached 43.5 tonnes,
according to Khaberni News.
The World Gold Council published last January its report on the gold
reserves of central banks worldwide. The data showed that central banks raised
their gold reserves to just under 35,600 tonnes — a nearly 30-year high.
In the Arab world, Saudi Arabia held the largest gold reserves
with 323.1 tonnes of precious metals.
According to the report, the US ranked
first globally in reserves with 8,133.5 tonnes, followed by Germany (3,359.1
tonnes), Italy (2451.8 tonnes), France (2436.4 tonnes), and Russia (2298.5 tonnes).
