AMMAN — In a recent
global poverty classification, Jordan
has been ranked 78th among the world’s poorest countries in 2023. The
classification, which encompassed 14 Arab nations, sheds light on the
economic challenges faced by Jordan and its regional counterpart.

According to data compiled by
Global Finance Magazine, the
Kingdom placed tenth among tenth among Arab countries included in the
comprehensive classification, which examined the economic status of 97 nations
worldwide
The poorest country rankedMeanwhile, South Sudan emerged as the country with the
highest poverty rate, securing the top position in the magazine's ranking. It
was closely followed by Somalia, which stood at the fourth position globally
and second among
Arab nations, highlighting the prevalent poverty issues in
these regions.
Yemen claimed the third spot among Arab countries and the
12th position globally. Comoros Islands secured the fourth rank regionally and
the 29th rank globally, emphasizing the challenges faced by this small island
nation.
Sudan
Sudan secured the fifth
position among Arab countries,
ranking 36th globally, in the poverty index for 2023, updated by the World Bank
in July.
In a notable development, the
West Bank and Gaza Stripped
placed the sixth position among Arab countries and the 52nd position worldwide,
signifying the pressing economic concerns.

Morocco placed ninth among Arab countries, standing at the
69th position globally. Jordan, coming in at the tenth position regionally and
78th globally, highlights the urgent need to address poverty-related issues in
the country.
The report also revealed that Iraq trailed behind Jordan in
the regional ranking, placing 79th globally, followed closely by Tunisia and
Algeria at the 80th and 81st positions, respectively.
Lastly, Egypt landed in the 14th position among Arab
countries, marking the conclusion of the comprehensive classification that
encompassed 97 nations worldwide.
