AMMAN
— Jordan received foreign aid totaling $4.4 billion in 2022, according to a
report released by the
Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation on
Monday.

According
to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the report revealed that regular grants
amounted to $1.66 billion, with $1.12 billion going towards supporting the
general state budget and the remainder being used for national-level
development projects.
Syrian crisis response plan receives $760 millionThe
volume of additional grants directed towards the
Syrian crisis response plan
reached about $760 million, making up 33.4 percent of the funding needed for
the Jordan Response Plan to the Syrian crisis.
Meanwhile,
the contracted soft loans amounted to approximately $2 billion, with $1.47
billion allocated for supporting the
general state budget or sectoral support
through the general budget.
The
remaining amount was designated for implementing development projects through
relevant sectoral ministries.
General state budget ‘main beneficiary’
The
report identified the general state budget as the main beneficiary of the aid,
with a rate of 41.2 percent. The
water and sanitation sector received 14.4
percent of the aid, followed by the food security and agriculture sector at
13.2 percent.
The
social protection sector accounted for 11.7 percent of the aid, while the
education sector received 4.7 percent. The employment,
vocational training, and
livelihoods sector received 3.1 percent, and the remaining funds were
distributed among other sectors.
The
Ministry of Planning attributed the foreign aid to the efforts of King
Abdullah, who has worked with friendly countries and entities to support the
reforms being implemented in Jordan at all levels.
