AMMAN —
Coper exploration point to the possibility of reaching an inferential
geological reserve with quantities ranging from 600,000 tonnes to 1.5 million
tonnes,
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh.

Kharabsheh said in
comments carried by local media outlets that digging is underway in Wadi Abu
Khashiba in southern Jordan, carried out by the Turkish Solvest Trade and
Industry Limited Company.
In June, Jordan
concluded its second agreement with Solvest, setting the stage for gold
exploration in the Abu Khashiba Valley in an area of 155sq.km. It was the second
agreement with the Turkish company since April, when a similar accord was
signed for copper ore exploration in the same area and also in the nearby Ghor
Fifa.
Kharabsheh said
Tuesday that Solvest is expected to increase the quantities of copper ore digging
to about three times during the mining activities.
He explained in a
statement that the data received by the ministry from the company confirms the
existence of promising copper ore reserves in “good concentrations”.
With regard to the
exploration work for copper in the southern Ghor Fifa region, Kharabsheh said
that studies prepared by the company showed a similarity in the types of rocks
and copper ores with
Khirbet Al-Nahhas and Wadi Khaled in the Dana region, as
confirmed by the results of the samples.
As for the gold
exploration project also implemented by Solvest in Abu Khashiba, Kharabsheh
said that after conducting remote sensing studies and reviewing previous
studies, the company identified gold mineralization places in an area 1.5km
long and 12 meters wide, with concentrations ranging from 0.1g to 30g per
tonne.
The finding is
expected to reach an economically viable commercial reserve through
intensifying studies and expanding in the mining area.
The area of the
copper exploration project in Wadi Abu Khashiba area is about 20sq.km. while
the area of Ghor Fifa is about 28sq.km.
If the feasibility
of the project is proven, the company will, at the end of the two memorandums
of understanding, hand over a preliminary economic feasibility study for two
projects to exploit copper and gold minerals in the areas granted to it. A
partnership agreement must be approved by a special law.
