AMMAN — A meeting on Tuesday
at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation tackled the steps
taken by Jordan in regard to its political modernization drive to promote involvement
of parties, and key roles for women and youths in political life, according to
a press release.

The meeting reviewed plans and
programs the government implements in cooperation with pertinent institutions
to achieve political modernization and explore ways of drawing on advanced
international experience and expertise in this regard.
Minister of Planning Nasser Shraideh
said that Jordan is going forward with the political modernization process, in
accordance with the Royal vision, in order to bring about a qualitative shift
in the political sphere and parliamentary life, and lay the foundations of an active
party life in parliament.
Shraideh also stressed the important
role the media play in enhancing participation in political and partisan culture,
as well as democratic practices, and said that the participation of women,
youths, and persons with disabilities in political life should be boosted.
Chief Commissioner of the
Independent Election Commission Musa Maaytah said that IEC had launched a
national campaign to raise awareness about recent constitutional amendments,
election and party laws, with a view to expanding participation in political
life, specifically of youths and women.
International partners including
officials, ambassadors and representatives of international organizations,
commended Jordan's serious steps in the area of political modernization, aimed
at expanding public participation in the decision-making process.
