AMMAN — The aquafarming industry, alongside
other “pioneering sectors” that are enjoying “significant growth”, will soon
have access to zero-interest loans as part of a nationwide sustainable
agriculture plan, according to the
Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat.

At a meeting with Fisheries and Marine Life
Association President Mohammed Shaheen, the minister said that the Agriculture
Ministry has earmarked JD10 million for zero-interest loans and an additional
JD5 million as “youth loans”, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
“Developing an action plan for the sector includes
an appropriate production environment and marketing solutions for local fish
production, in addition to overcoming challenges that local farmers face,”
Hneifat said.
For his part, Shaheen said “the fisheries sector
seeks cooperation and sustained partnership to overcome challenges, especially
under the national sustainable
agriculture plan, which provides for a solid
infrastructure across sectors.”
