AMMAN — A Lawmaker urged the government to reduce taxes on fuel and fix the prices of oil derivatives next month, said Jo24. The call by Abdullah Al-Awad, rapporteur of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, follows widespread expectations that the government will hike fuel prices again in June. Awad said the current tax imposed on fuel “is very high”, and constitutes a “burden on citizens”. He pointed out that the energy file is “thorny”, and asserted that he opposed any increase in fuel or electricity prices. He accused the ministry of avoiding to meet with the Parliamentary Energy Committee. The call by Abdullah Al-Awad, rapporteur of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, follows widespread expectations that the government will hike fuel prices again in June.
