AMMAN — Agriculture experts consider the resumption of Jordan-Syrian trade relations as giving hope for the rejuvenation of the Jordan agriculture sector, according to a report in Al Ghad News.اضافة اعلان

The experts considered the reopening of trade ties as one of the best things to have happened and considered it part of the solution to the economic crisis that Jordan’s agriculture sector has been going through for a decade due to border closures, that disrupted a vital artery of trade between the two countries.

The experts said that opening the Jordanian-Syrian border at this time of the year will allow farmers to market their products in Syria and increase agricultural exports in general.

“The visit of the Syrian Minister of Agriculture to Jordan was a serious gesture of mutual cooperation in all fields, especially when it comes to facilitating the flow of agricultural goods between Jordan and Syria,” the experts said.

The head of the Jordan Exporters and Producers Association for Fruit & Vegetables (JEPA), Sulieman Al-Hayari, said that opening the Jordan-Syrian border will have a great impact on the local market, especially the agriculture sector.

Moreover, he said that exports which will go through Syria and on to Lebanon and Europe will help rejuvenate the country’s fruits and vegetables exports, especially exports from the Jordan valley, which was affected worst of all due to border closures.

Reopening borders will see fruits and vegetables available on the local market at reasonable prices.
