This donation comes
as part of an overall contribution recently announced by the government of
South Korea, whereby UNRWA’s Jordan Field Office will use the funds to enhance
technical and vocational education and training of Palestinian refugee youths
at two of its centers established for training in Jordan.
Marta Lorenzo,
director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan, welcomed a delegation headed by the
Ambassador of the
Republic of Korea to Jordan Lee Jae-wan at the agency’s Wadi
Seer Training Center in Amman, where a signing ceremony was held for covering
the particular clauses of the fund agreement related to the project proposal.
The contribution
aims at improving the vocational courses curricula for UNRWA youth so that they
become competitive and meet the job market requirements.
According to the
World Bank, the unemployment rate among young people in Jordan reached 47.7
percent during the first quarter of 2022.
Young Palestinian refugees are increasingly in need
of new, innovative professional skills that increase their possibilities of
finding jobs in a professionally evolving and increasingly competitive world.
The contribution
will also be used to maintain educational facilities and replace old furniture.
