In his first public statement since Thursday’s Cabinet reshuffle, Shraideh said the government is working to achieve “more justice” when it comes to the tax burden, by combating tax and customs evasion, and collecting more amounts by reaching various segments of taxpayers.

He emphasized that the government will continue to address budgetary issues, including the increasing public debt, pointing out that the budget deficit can only be covered through internal or external borrowing.

“I believe that the government’s performance is measured by its ability to pay back debts, and we are able to pay, much like when repaying the eurobond in June,” said Shraideh, reiterating that the government may resort to borrowing, which is the case every time there is a budget deficit.
