AMMAN — The
Jordan Farmers Union urged the government to stop requiring farmers to pay 21 percent of the
salary expatriate workers to the Social Security Corporation, according to
Ammon News.

Union Najeh Al-Karaki said on Saturday that the union asks for the social
security to be optional, and not mandatory, noting that a farmer who employs 10
guest workers get to pay JD5,500 annually.
The union also called on the
government to reduce the fees for work permits from JD420 to JD300 and to issue
legislation facilitating bringing in expatriate workers of different
nationalities.
Karaki said that the union will
carry out a protest in front of the Lower House of Parliament, as of January 30,
to push the government to respond to its demands.
