Minister of
Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Al-Hanandeh said that the agreement
signed on Monday with Zain is identical to the agreements signed with Umniah
and Orange.
In a press
conference, Hanandeh said that the agreement came after a comprehensive study
of the sector’s needs and investment requirements, and of the several
challenges that will be faced, and includes a set of points that were agreed
upon.
“We were late in
signing this agreement because of purely legal matters on the part of the
company,” he said, stressing that the telecommunications sector is part of the
Economic Modernization Vision and a major enabler for all sectors.
He added that the
sector constitutes a model for the advanced telecommunications sectors in the
world.
Hanandeh pointed
out that the sector’s work is not limited to providing telecommunications
services, noting that all companies have become providers of financial and
technical services as well.
Hanandeh said that
the sector’s investments in infrastructure amounted to JD1.860 billion, which
contributed to supporting economic development in Jordan.
Chairman of TRC
Board of Commissioners Bassam Al-Sarhan said that the agreement is a
continuation of the partnership between the public and private sectors.
He pointed out
that the introduction of the 5G technology requires huge investment in
infrastructure, noting that the commission has taken note of existing
challenges, which prompted the government to adopt measures to solve them.
Deputy Chairman of
Zain Board of Directors Bader Al-Kharafi thanked His Majesty the King and the
Crown Prince for overcoming obstacles and supporting Kuwaiti investments in
Jordan. He pointed out that the 5G services will contribute to opening new job
opportunities in the Kingdom.
