Head of the
Syndicate of Restaurant and Sweets Shop Owners
Omar Awwad and president of the
Textile and Readymade Clothes Syndicate Sultan Allan said that consumers
noticed little difference in prices from the change in tariffs because the
international prices rose.
A director in a
supply institution pointed out that reducing the customs tariff maintained the
prices of many products in the local markets, despite their increase in the
countries where they were made, adding this is a result of the high prices of
raw materials, cartons, production costs, and shipping charges.
Amman Chamber of Commerce clothing sector representative Asaad Qawasmi contended that lowering
the customs’ tariff with the increase of the international prices led to the
prices’ stability in the local market, in consumers’ favor. He added that the
sector’s prices are similar to the prices of previous years.
