In a statement released Tuesday, the department said the extension is intended to allow taxpayers who have not yet submitted their income tax returns and paid their due taxes to do so before the legal deadline of April 30. This move aims to help taxpayers avoid penalties or surcharges that result from late filing or payment.

The department urged taxpayers to submit their income tax returns and preliminary financial statements for the fiscal year 2024, and to settle any outstanding taxes before the end of the business day on Wednesday, which marks the final day of the legal submission period.

The department also reiterated the legal consequences of late submission, including:

A mandatory surcharge for failing to file a tax return.

A penalty of 4 per thousand (0.4%) of the unpaid tax amount for each week of delay or part thereof.
