officially after the completion of the technical studies.
This month, the
airport began receiving offers to implement the plan to cover the 1km long and
17m deep valley within the required specifications.
The estimated
work period for the project is 10 months from the date of referral of the
tender.
Potential
second option for low-cost flightsSecretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Wesam Tahtamouni, had previously indicated that
Amman Civil Airport would be a second option for receiving low-cost flights.
During the financial committee meetings to
discuss the general budget for 2023, the Minister of Transport, Maher Abu
Al-Samen, stated that the operation of Amman Civil Airport would begin this year.
However,
CEO of Jordanian Airports Company, Ahmad Azzam, earlier stated that the commercial
operation of Amman Civil Airport in the Marka area would begin in 2024, after
obtaining the operating permit from the Civil Aviation Authority.
The airport currently operates to receive non-commercial aircraft, and civil operations at the
airport are limited to private flights, diplomatic flights, and flights for
maintenance purposes.
In addition to
its operations,
Amman Civil Airport/Marka also houses the headquarters of
several academies operating within the airport campus, making it a center for
education and training in the aviation field.
