In comments carried by Ad-Dustor News, Laboun said that some
800,000 household meters have been read, and 114,000 belonging to businesses,
including industrial, agricultural, commercial, tourist and private hospitals.
He pointed out that Jordanian families with no more than JD50,
or monthly consumption of 600 kilowatts will not be affected by the new tariff.
He said that 90 to 93 percent of the household meters read were within that
category.
He explained that the bills will be lower than previously for
households with a monthly consumption of less than 300 kilowatts.
He said there was a 12 percent decline in electricity bills
for some economic sectors in April.
Laboun pointed out that the new tariff extends to households
consuming less than 937 kilowatts per month. He noted that 1 to 1.5 percent of Jordanians
consumes more.
