AMMAN — The Fondation L’Oréal and
UNESCO hosted the
first For Women in Science Young Talents Awards Ceremony for MENA at Expo 2020
Dubai, both parties announced in a joint press statement.

The event marked the International Day of Women and Girls in
Science on February 11 and honored 14 Arab female scientists from the
MENA region for their groundbreaking research in the fields environmental and
computer sciences, psychics, and mathematics.
The scientists were PhD students and post-doctorate
researchers, the statement said, underscoring their role in solving today’s
challenges as well as inspiring the future generation of women.
According to the latest UNESCO Science Report published in
June 2021, although 33 percent of researchers worldwide are women, the number
of women of women in science is not increasing quickly enough, the statement
said.
The program is part of the
L’Oréal-UNESCO global “For Women
in Science” initiative that has recognized over 3,900 researchers and 122
laureates from more than 110 countries and regions since its inception in 1998.
