WB willing to prop Jordan’s budget by up to $900 million

AMMAN — World Bank (WB) MENA Vice President Ferid Belhaj said on Wednesday that the bank is willing to support Jordan’s budget with an amount ranging between $700 and $900 million during the next fiscal year, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.   According to him, support for Jordan in the coming period is not conditional on economic and social growth.   He pointed out that the WB’s portfolio in Jordan has reached nearly $3 billion and is subject to increase, noting that the bank has also expressed interest in renewable energy projects in Jordan.   Belhaj also said that there are “discussions with the government to provide support worth JD200 to JD300 million to address water loss”.
