The proposed cost
of the project amounts to $480 million, which is subject to change until the
final approval of the project by the bank’s Board of Executive Directors.
The proposed project aims to enhance food security
and mitigate the effects of high grain prices on vulnerable families in Jordan.
The project entitled “Emergency Food Security” will
be implemented by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, and
“negotiations are currently under way” between the World Bank and the Ministry
of Planning and International Cooperation.
The
UN noted that pressure on Jordan’s food security
has been exacerbated by the pandemic, which has had an impact on all areas,
affecting the achievement of the sustainable development goals set out in its
2030 plan.
